Mr Cool wins Senior Champion Bull at Beef 2009
Congratulations to Marilyn Hansen and Dean Rassmussen, Sheldee Murray Grey Stud, Queensland, on exhibiting Monterey Mr Cool at Rockhampton Beef 2009, where he was awarded Senior Champion Bull.
Mr Cool was purchased in February this year at our 2009 Annual Sale, for 2nd top price of $13500. He made the trip across the Nullabor in March to settle in to his new surroundings in QLD, and has obviously made the adjustment very well.
Monterey genetics at the Ekka 2008
Congratulations to David and Sally Taylor, along with their daughter Kathryn and her husband Matthew, who did exceptionally well at this year's Ekka with Monterey genetics.
Two of the championship ribbons were won by daughters of Monterey Miss Magnolia L6, who was purchased from us by David and Sally some years ago. Her older daughter, Baroona Park Magnolia A10 was Senior and Grand Champion (she also won Junior Ch in 1996). The younger Miss Magnolia daughter, Baroona Park Rose won the 14-16 mths class and was Reserve Junior Female.
The Junior Champion Female, also bred by the Taylors, was sired by Monterey Sundowner, out of Baroona Park Julia, a Monterey Tremendous daughter. Julia also produced the Senior and Grand Champion Murray Grey Bull, Baroona Park Jupiter.
Client Successes 2007
What a wonderful performance to win Champion pen of three steers in QLD’s Dalby Beef Bonanza Steer Show. Fantastic effort against stiff competition. Kevin & Trish Vayro, in partnership with Tim & Pauline Perkins, The Ultimate MG Stud, Condamine, QLD, purchased ¾ share and possession of Monterey Sensational from our 2006 sale. They all have a real passion for Murray Greys, and with Sensational having won Grand Champion Bull at the Miles Unled Bull Show, we can expect some exciting progeny on the QLD scene later in 2008.
With drought gripping most states of Australia during 2007, it was very pleasing to see breeders using Monterey genetics meeting with success in the show ring.
At the MG National Show & Sale, the Southorn’s Devanagh Stud exhibited the Res Junior Champion Female, who was sired by a son of Monterey Starlight. The Martin family met with success, winning Junior & Grand Champion Bull and Res Junior Champion Bull, one sired by a son of Monterey Millennium and the other from a daughter of Monterey Star Chief, and the McGoldrick family, Kawari Hill, sold two sons of Monterey Sundowner for good money to two established studs. One of these Sundowner sons went on to be the Res Senior Champion Bull at the Brisbane Royal, while the other was Junior Champion Bull at Canberra. At the Sydney Royal Show, Kawari Hill Outback, bred by the McGoldricks and sired by Monterey Majestic Lad, was Senior and Grand Champion Bull.
Another significant win at the Canberra Royal was Ian and Narelle Wilcox’s Ayr Park Jacinta, a Monterey Momentum P42 daughter, who was Junior Champion Female.
The Taylor family, Baroona Park, had another excellent showing at Brisbane and picked up Junior Champion Bull with Baroona Park Jupiter out of a Monterey Tremendous daughter, and Reserve Senior Champion Female Baroona Park Claudia, out of Monterey Mannequin T17.
In Adelaide, the Randell family exhibited Kenton Braveheart, by Monterey Starman, winning Res Junior Champion Bull.
In Perth, Res Junior Champion Bull for Willawa Greys was a son of Monterey Bolinda T66, who was purchased at our Annual sale some years back.
Congratulations to all those breeders and all the very best for a successful 2008.
